Zulu Queen Daisy- The “Bug Shots” Series Begins

Pushing Daisy Tuesday Tribute is a series of posts promoting the Pushing Daisy Drive (Driven by Miss Daisy’s Daughter). Every episode is a small tribute to my mom Daisy and hopes to share inspirational posts and promotions. It’s also were I acknowledge Daisy Drive Donors and share campaign updates.

In this episode, I’m kicking off the “Bug Shot of the Week Series, one of two fundraising series that promotes photographers and programs on St. Croix, US Virgin Islands. When you Pay What You Want (PWYW) for the featured photo donated by the featured photographer, you’ll also be contributing to the Pushing Daisy Drive,  as well as other featured youth programs on St. Croix that are close to my heart.

“Bug Shot of the Week Strong”- Zulu Queen Daisy

The “Bug Shot of the Week” Series features the exceptional photography of Ras Lumumba Corriette of Ay Ay Eco Hike & Tours. His love for nature shines through in every one of his shots of insects, flowers and nature in general.

Her-story of the Zulu Queen Daisy

In May of 2015, long time friend Ras Lumumba, sent me an email entitled Zulu Queen Daisy in my Flower Garden. In the first sentence he writes, “Miss Daisy, your mother, ‘The Zulu Queen’ has chosen to resurrected in my garden. In fact, she looks so Majestic in her regal garments…” With such a powerful photo and statement, there was no way I could put “Week” after this Bug Shot. Enjoy!

Buzzing My Way Back to Blogging

Tuesday Tribute

Ironically, my last blog post, Dealing With the Death of Daisy, was on my mother’s Earthday nearly 20 months ago! I began a 49 Day Challenge on that day to rejuvenate, revamp and recommit to my travel writing, book publishing and fundraising goals. I even had the nerve to end the post with the catchy phrase, “Don’t believe me just watch!” from performer Bruno Mars. Right!

Truth be told, I was quite busy buzzing around. just not directly in the blogging, book publishing and fundraising arena. Here are some highlights of what this worker bee did do:

3-Month Internship @ Growing Power

Karen, Me and Will

Growing Power was founded by MacArthur Genius Award winner Will Allen. As one of the world’s largest urban farms, Growing Power transforms communities by supporting people from diverse backgrounds through the development of Community Food Systems. I was inspired by Will’s story after listening to his interview on the Food Revolution Summit hosted by John and Ocean Robbins and decided to do a 3-month internship in Milwaukee. It Was Hard Work! Yet, that’s exactly what I wanted to experience. With absolutely no experience in farming, I wanted to see if I could handle the physical labor involved in preparation for the Pushing Daisy Drive’s goal of building a Eco-friendly health education center in honor of my mother’s legacy of service. I attended workshops on composting, beekeeping, growing mushrooms and micro-greens, yet most importantly I got used to working hard and having fun with my farm family!

Contributing Author in Careers From The Kitchen Table (CFTKT)

I met Raven Blair Glover, founder of Amazing Women Of Power.com Radio Network at Sell More Summit back in 2015. We connected on the story of our mothers, since her mother’s death was the motivation behind launching her radio network. As fate would have it, I met “Raven the Talk Show Maven” right before her Amazing Moms Mother’s Day Celebration. Raven was looking to interview a few women who had lost their moms before having the opportunity to interview them, since that was the one interview she regrets not doing. Fast-forward to 2016, I had the opportunity to be a contributing author to Raven’s book, Careers From the Kitchen Table: Insider Secrets To Starting & Running a Successful Home-Based Business, which includes 8 hours of downloadable audio and interviews with the likes of Jack Canfield, Lisa Nichols and others. My success story was titled, Writing to Recover From the Loss of My Mother. In December 2016, I attended a launch event for her patented Hat Wrap Design and CFTKT Book Launch.

From Mothers Day to Her Earthday: A 4-Month Countdown

Now that I’m back on my blogging game, I realize this time calls for a new cycle of courage in my blogging, book publishing and fundraising goals. Given the current social climate, I feel more focused and compelled  to share my greatest gifts and make a global impact. Here’s What’s Buzzing for next the 4-Months:

Dealing With the Death of Daisy

“There will never be another that will love you like your mother.” -Unknown

The King Family Reunion

Happy bEARTHday Mama! You are truly missed. Today, on my mom’s Earthday, we are exactly 49 days shy of it being approximately 2 years since her transition on November 14th. In Pt. 6 of the 10-part series involving serendipitous  events involving the date of Nov. 14th, I mention this discovery.

It’s 49 days (7 weeks) until my mother’s 2 year anniversary, and I ask myself, “how far along am I with my desires of travel writing, book publishing and fundraising, I set out to achieve at the start of the 10 Month Manifest Your Desire Campaign  back on Jan. 14th, 2014?

What Would Daisy Do?

As I reflect on my desires, I can see how I’ve consciously co-created the time and cultivated the conviction to achieve my goals; however, my person hasn’t manifested the money or, more importantly, the mindset to make it a high priority to create the systems and support team necessary to be more effective.

Thanks to Owen McGab Enaohwo, CEO of SweetProcess and Roger James Hamilton, creator of the Genius Test, what I now realize must be my priorities are the three following things:

  • Find your creative genius and a support team, so you can focus your flow on assisting yourself and your team on what you are good at
  • MAKE the time to create the systems, processes and procedures necessary, so that you can outsource certain tasks, leaving more time to pursue your passions
  • Avail yourself of resources, such as Fiverr, that provide inexpensive options for outsourcing work

49 Day Challenge

“You’ve got to pay the cost to be boss.”

Now that Saturn (the planet of responsibility an integrity) has entered the constellation of my Sun Sign Sagittarius, it’s all about receiving the resources to make dreams and desires a direct experience. So, since I want to wear the crown, I have a 49 Day Challenge going down! Starting today, on my mother’s Earthday, until my mother’s 2 year anniversary on November 14th, I plan to rejuvenaterevamp and recommit to my desires in the following ways.

Rejuvenate DeBorah B’s Travel Bug Blog

  • My most important goal is to create a writing schedule and consistently stick to it by planning ahead and creating the proper systems to make this a reality starting November 14th.

Revamp Pubslush Book Funding Campaign

  • Back in October 2015, I launched a crowdfunding campaign on Pubslush for my forthcoming book, Prayers of a Virgin: 52 Weeks of Poetic Inspiration and Personal Planetary Guidance with the Destiny Cards. Unfortunately, I didn’t meet my goal on time, so all of the money donated on that platform went back to the donors. My goal is to continue to write 1 hour or more a day on the book and relaunch the campaign on Pubslush in February of next year.

Recommit to Pushing Daisy Drive

  • I have a host of ideas on how to fundraise and inspire people to donate to the Pushing Daisy Drive and most of them include creating informative, inspiring content that motivates people. My goal is to have a plan (as well as processes) in place by Nov. 14th to create a series of videos, audios and Pay What You Want e-books in which the donations will go toward the fund.

Well, with that said, it’s time for me to get busy! And, as Bruno Mars would say, “Don’t believe me just watch.”

Nov. 14th in His-story, Her-story & My-Story: A Conclusion (Pt. 10 of 10)

Today is the tenth and final post in a 10-part series involving serendipitous and mysterious events and occurrences involving the date of Nov. 14th and it’s the last day of the 10-Month Manifest Your Desires Campaign. The posts in this series have been categorized as events that happened before Nov. 14, the day of  Nov. 14th, and after Nov. 14, 2013. I hope you’ve enjoyed the campaign posts and that they’ve inspired you to “manifest your desires.” Enjoy!

Tuesday Tribute

In this tenth and final post, I’d like to take a different angle. On the last day of my Vipassana retreat in Peru, my roommate suggested a great idea I hadn’t thought of before and that was to research Nov. 14th from a historical perspective as well. In this post, I’ll share the significance of Nov. 14th from a perspective of world “his-story”, from my mother’s  “her-story”, and most importantly for me, in “my-story” that is continuously unfolding.

Nov. 14th in His-story

On Nov. 14th, Herman Melville published “Moby Dick, ” Albert Einstein presented his quantum theory of light, the power plant at Niagra Falls began operations, the Philippine Islands was declared a free commonwealth, Puerto Rico votes against becoming the 51st US state, the Congress of Colombia declares this day as “Day of the Colombian Woman” and we also celebrate World Diabetes Day (International).

On Nov. 14th,  Ray Charles’ “Georgia on My Mind” reaches #1, Michael Jackson’s “Black or White” premieres on FOX TV, Disney’s “Lion King” sets a Broadway record in daily sales, the play “Chicago” opens in New York and Muhammad Ali TKO’s Cleveland Williams for the heavyweight title.

On Nov. 14th, American educator, author, and activist Booker T. Washington died and Prince Charles of Britain,  former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, Reverend Run (Rapper of Run-DMC), Jazz pianist Ellis Marsalis and Yanni are all born.

Nov. 14th in Her-Story

Daisy On Thursday, November 14, 2013, Daisy Elizabeth Teresa King Bellony was called home to her God and joined her mother, Catherine George King, who also died on Thursday, November 14, 56 years earlier.  As to be expected, her-story has a lot of my-story intertwined and vice-versa.

For my mother to choose the same day as her mother to make her transition says a lot about completion and their powerful connection. As I’ve written in Pt. 3 of this series, my mother and I believed that I have my grandmother’s spirit. I’m still researching to find out what date my grandmother was born and as soon as I find out, I will definitely write about it.

P1020156 While I was in Peru, I visited the Huaca Pucllana ruins in Lima. This Pre-Inca sacred site served as an administrative and religious center from 200 to 700 A.D.  According to Richard Aguirre , it was originally a part of a larger complex that worshiped a feminine divinity associated with the sea and was used for burials and sacrificial ceremonies by later cultures, including the Wari tribe. In 2010, an important archaeological find of funeral bundles was discovered and according to my tour guide, it had become popular to sacrifice children when nobles died because they represent innocence and purity. While I can understand the principle behind this, I couldn’t help thinking this ritual couldn’t have been practiced during the early origins of their civilization.

As the tour guide P1020166was leading our group away from the reconstructed landmark, an idea came to me spontaneously to stay behind and leave a lock of my mother hair that I had just remembered I was carrying in my purse! I reached over and placed my mother’s hair in one of the bowls in the picture and said a prayer in this sacred, ancient place that her spirit would be at peace and that the transgressions of the parents of the past be healed continuously by the choices of each generation in the future.

 Nov. 14th in My-Story

“Don’t look for closure. There is no closure, it just keeps opening” -Abraham-Hicks

I began this blog asUntitled design a way to honor my mother’s memory and to inspire others, but it’s also been about me and my grieving/healing process. I hoped this 10-Month Manifest Your Desires Campaign could provide a sense of closure to a chapter of my life and in many ways it has done just that. However, I also understand that it’s less about “closing the door” on all the cherished and painful memories and more about “opening to a new season.” And speaking of seasons, in the Mayan Calendar,  there is a 50-Day period made up of portal and core days taking place from Oct. 31st to December 19th in 2014. These dates fall differently every year; however, the 20-day cycle of core days begins on Nov. 15th , making Nov. 14th the end of a season or cycle. During these 20 core days, the energy on the planet is more powerful to accelerate transformation and we are more receptive to cosmic knowledge for self mastery.

So, as the 10-Month Manifest Your Desires Campaign comes to a close, I’d like to thank each and everyone who has read, shared, commented or donated to this blog, and while the Pushing Daisy Drive will be an on-going project in the future, my focus for the next 23 days will be to raise at least $1,000 to fund the publishing of my forthcoming book Prayers of a Virgin: 52 Weeks of Poetic Inspiration and Personal Planetary Guidance with the Destiny Cards.

A New Chapter:  23 More Days to Support My Book Fund on Pubslush!

With the initial investment of book pre-orders, I’ll have the  resources needed to self-publish and get my book out on the market sooner. Another great benefit of the Pubslush platform is that I’ll have the opportunity to get more feedback in order to produce a better product. My ultimate goal is to raise $4,000 to cover the publishing and printing costs; however, I must raise at least $1,000 to keep any of the funds that I raise.

I would love to get your support by taking the survey, becoming a fan, making a donation or just spreading the word. I know this book can help a lot of people and I will have some great bonuses for those who make a contribution. If you have been thinking of ordering a Destiny Card report or getting a consultation, this would be the time to do it since it will go toward the book funding goal.

After Nov. 14th: The Biggest Coincidence (Pt. 9 of 10)

Today’s post is the ninth in a 10-part series involving serendipitous and mysterious events and occurrences involving the date of Nov. 14th (the same date my mother died). These posts will be categorized as events that happened before Nov. 14, the day of  Nov. 14th, and after Nov. 14, 2013. Enjoy!

Tuesday Tribute

In this ninth post of serendipitous occurrences after Nov. 14th, I’ll be sharing the last and biggest “coincidence” that really blew my mind. This one has some history to it that I’ll share here.

Back in 2001

Back in 2001, I moved from Atlanta to Arizona for a change of pace and to dedicate myself to becoming a more serious writer. I worked at the Tempe Public Library and the Changing Hands Bookstore  so that I could be totally surrounded by books.

One day, an older lady came into the bookstore looking for an astrology book and as we began to talk, she asked me if I knew about the Astrological Institute in Scottsdale, AZ. Apparently, the school had been getting a lot of media attention as the only accredited school for astrology and psychology at the time. I told her I didn’t know anything about it, but that I’d look into it, since I was a big fan of astrology. The next day at work at the library, I told a co-worker at the reference desk about the school and she got the address and number for me (this was before the time you could just talk the question into your cell phone ;0).

When I went to the school to inquire about their program, I found out they needed a person with my skills in nonprofit fundraising. To make a long story short, I ended up working at the school and taking classes for free as an employee! During the short time of my employment, I got a chance to know founder and visionary, Joyce Jensen (my boss) very well. I even spent a month living with her before moving to the Bay Area to work at The University of Creation Spirituality in Oakland. I remember thinking Joyce was the coolest White woman I had met in my life back then. I listened to her stories of how she left home as a teenager and climbed her way to the top in the real estate business to become a millionaire. I listened to her stories with her run-ins with her boyfriend with mafia ties, and all the jazz legends she heard play in the segregated Black clubs back in the day. When all the famous astrologers used to hold weekend workshop intensives at the school, she would drag me along when she took them out to eat. Good times. Needless to say, I was shocked to receive an email telling me Joyce had passed away from a terminal illness, when just six months earlier, I was assisting her and the AI staff at the 2002 United Astrology Conference.

Moving Forward to 2013

So that was back in 2002. Let’s move forward in time to February 2013 when I was visiting friends and family in the Virgin Islands. When I moved from St. Croix,VI to live in Mexico in 2008, I had two weeks to sell, give away or ask friends and family to store my belongings. On this trip, I went to collect some of my belongings I had left at a good friends place. One box in particular had a lot of memorabilia that I wanted to hold onto. As I was going through some of my old journals and letters, I came across the email that my friend at the Astrological Institute sent me to tell me Joyce had passed away. My jaw dropped when I saw the date of her passing as Thursday, November 14th 2002! Here is her story as told by Philip Sedgwick on StarIQ. We miss you Joyce!

After Nov. 14th: Maybe It’s All Just Coincidence (Pt. 8 of 10)

Today’s post is the eighth in a 10-part series involving serendipitous and mysterious events and occurrences involving the date of Nov. 14th (the same date my mother died). These posts will be categorized as events that happened before Nov. 14, the day of  Nov. 14th, and after Nov. 14, 2013. Enjoy!

Tuesday Tribute

There’s a theory that once you are aware of something, it seems to show up everywhere. For instance, once you buy a particular model car or a new jacket, you begin to see it popping up everywhere. Maybe that’s the case here. Maybe it’s just coincidence I’m becoming more aware of Nov. 14th occurrences because of my mother’s death.

In this eighth post of serendipitous occurrences after Nov. 14th, I’ll be sharing some snidbits of events and you can be the judge if they’re just “coincidental” or not. Next week, I’ll share one last “coincidence” that really blew my mind.

At the Viewing in St. Thomas, VI
On Nov. 27th, a few days before my mother’s funeral, I found out at the viewing, that Nov. 14th was the birthday of one of my favorite cousins that I hadn’t seen in many years. I remember when I was younger and used to go back to Antigua every summer, we would spend time playing basketball and going to the beach. How coincidental is that?

At a Tybro Workshop in Charlotte, NC
Right after my mother’s funeral on Nov. 29th, I left St. Thomas to attend the Connecting with Divine Creative Forces workshop on Nov. 30th put on by Dr. Mitchell and Cathy Gibson, founders of Tybro. I hadn’t seen Dr. Gibson since 2002 when we both used to work at the Astrological Institute in Scottsdale, AZ. Since then, he had gotten married and I was able to meet his wife for the first time at the event. As fate would have it, they both shared a touching story about her brother that had recently passed away. Needless to say, my jaw dropped when she mentioned that the funeral was held on Nov. 14th!

On Skype with A Friend in Mexico
I have a good friend that I met in Mexico at a Vipassana retreat back in 2009. Although she is originally from India and I  am from North America, we have a lot in common as English teachers and long-time Vipassana meditators (not to mention our birthdays are only 4 days apart). I still remember her response back in March when I shared with her about my mother’s death and all the  serendipitous incidents around the date on Nov. 14th. She listened intently and replied, “Well guess what? This is really going to blow your mind because my mother’s birthday is Nov. 14th!”

At the 25th Bioneers Conference in San Rafael, CA
The last and most recent “coincidence” took place at the 25th Bioneers Conference a few weeks ago. I had a chance to reconnect with one of the conference presenters, Caroline Casey, who I originally met at a United Astrology Conference (UAC) back in 2002. I was sending her greetings from a mutual friend and astrologer, Tuere Cheka and telling her about my book Afraid of Our Own Shadow. That’s  when she introduced me to the woman next to her sharing how she was involved in similar work. When I heard her name, China Galland, I immediately remembered hearing her talk on a  Healing Racism as a Spiritual Practice panel on the Inspiring Women’s  Summit back in June.

Now here are two things that are even more coincidental. The first is that I was so inspired by her Resurrecting Love film project, I emailed her after the summit in June to commend her and even put a link to her site on my resource page. The second is that as we were talking, I happened to mention the 10-Month Manifest Your Desire Campaign that I was currently undertaking in honor of my mother who recently died on Nov. 14th. Well, when she shared with me that her mother died on Nov. 14th, 2010 I was too through! Until next time!

After Nov. 14th: No Better Place Than Peru (Pt. 7 of 10)

Today’s post is the seventh in a 10-part series involving serendipitous and mysterious events and occurrences involving the date of Nov. 14th (the same date my mother died). These posts will be categorized as events that happened before Nov. 14, the day of  Nov. 14th, and after Nov. 14, 2013. Enjoy!

Tuesday Tribute

The seventh serendipitous occurrence after Nov. 14th takes place in Peru and I can’t think of a better place. Many of you may not be aware that Latin America (and Peru especially), has a mystical past that has been hidden from the general population. Horace Butler, author of When Rocks Cry Out, theorizes that when you read the ancient descriptions of the layout of Jerusalem, the Saksaywaman ruins in Cusco, Peru can be said to be the true location of Jeru(Peru)-salem of the Bible.

Given this information, I couldn’t think of a better place to be doing my yearly 10-day Vipassana silence retreat than Peru. From Dec. 28th to Jan. 7th, I had the opportunity to send out energy during the last days of my mom’s 49 day transitional period and pray for her peaceful and prosperous ascension. I’d like to share two powerful personal experiences in Peru related to a previous post (part 3 of 10) where I mentioned that my personal menstruation cycle began the day of Nov. 14th. Well, to continue the story, I started to become concerned when I noticed that my next cycle was way late and this has never happened in the past. Everyone told me that it must be related to stress related to my mother’s death, but I wasn’t certain because I thought I was processing everything well. Five weeks came, six weeks came and still no cycle. So, I just released my concern about the whole thing and focused on my goals during the silence retreat.

When January 1st came (the day of her ascension), I awoke like clock work at 11 pm (12am where my mother was living) to the sound of fireworks and tipped toed outside my room to watch the night sky light up in celebration of a new year. I had the most powerful, lucid dream just before then, and it was as if she was giving me instructions on how to handle four things that would come up in the future. After receiving that omen, I felt happy and assured that she had ascended with “flying colors.” The fireworks, the New Year and the New Moon of January 1, 2014  just added to the story. My meditation for the whole day was great and I felt such joy in my soul to know that my mother had incarnated or ascended to a better place. So lo and behold, on Jan 2nd at around 12am, my cycle came like clockwork. To me, this symbolized the beginning of a new chapter in my life that is actually connected to the past.

And this brings me to my second powerful personal experience. Back in 1998 on Jan. 2nd, I had just completed my first silence retreat and it was on that day that I received the revelation to write a book of which I share the story on my first blog Coming Full Circle Countdown.  The icing on the cake for me was when on Jan. 2nd, the llama in this picture shows up at the retreat for the first time to share a message with me. When I looked up the significance of llama animal medicine, it mentioned that the llama brings the energies of hard work, responsibility and endurance and reminds us to take balanced action with patience and persistence. These have been the exact traits needed in order to manifest my desire of creating the financial legacy needed to honor my mother’s legacy with the Pushing Daisy Drive. Until next time!

After Nov. 14th: 20 Days of Silence (Pt. 6 of 10)

Today’s post is the sixth in a 10-part series involving serendipitous and mysterious events and occurrences involving the date of Nov. 14th (the same date my mother died). These posts will be categorized as events that happened before Nov. 14, the day of  Nov. 14th, and after Nov. 14, 2013. Enjoy!

Tuesday Tribute

In order to share the sixth serendipitous occurrence to take place after Nov. 14th, I have to jump ahead of the story a bit. There are several other events that take place before the one I’ll share today, but this one has a lot of relevance to last week’s post. I’m kind of surprised I didn’t see this one earlier; however, after spending 20 Days of Silence at a Vipassana retreat, there isn’t much of anything that doesn’t come up to the surface!

In April, I had an opportunity to attend my first 20-Day Vipassana silence retreat in Onalaska, Washingtion. I have been to 10 Day silence retreats in the past, but this was the first time that I would be in silence for 20 days! Needless to say, it was an amazing experience. It gave me the opportunity to truly process the death of my mother. I reminisced on all the good times growing up and all the hard and soft lessons I’ve learned that have helped to shape me into the person I am today. As I was flowing on this feast of feel good memories, the thought finally occurred to me to count the days from my mother’s birthday on Sept. 26th to the day of her death. You guessed it! From Sept. 26th to Nov. 13th makes exactly 49 days! That was her last complete 49 day cycle on the earth plane. Now how does it get any stranger than that? Until next time!

After Nov. 14th : 49 Days After Death (Pt. 5 of 10)

Today’s post is the fifth in a 10-part series involving serendipitous and mysterious events and occurrences involving the date of Nov. 14th (the same date my mother died). These posts will be categorized as events that happened before Nov. 14, the day of  Nov. 14th, and after Nov. 14, 2013. Enjoy!

Tuesday Tribute

The fifth serendipitous occurrence to take place after Nov. 14th has a little history to it and again has to do with the Destiny Cards, an ancient astrological system hidden in the ordinary deck of playing cards. The Destiny Cards system is based off of a mathematical formula that determines the layout for the mundane spread for each year. No matter how many times you use this formula, there are three cards that always end up in the same position. They are the Eight of Clubs (that’s my card),  the Jack of Hearts (that’s my mom’s card) and the King of Spades. Unlike the Eight of Clubs (8C) and Jack of Hearts (JH), there is only one day of the year that you can be born to have a King of Spades (KS) birth card and that is January 1st. I came to the conclusion that these three cards represent qualities to the ancient Egyptian motto, “to operate (KS) in truth (8C) in service (JH) to others.”

To make a long story short, I was at lunch with my friend in Peru explaining how my book Prayers of a Virgin: 52 Weeks of Poetic Inspiration and Personal Planetary Guidance with the Destiny Cards was motivated by my mother’s death, when she reminded me that in the Tibetian tradition, a deceased person’s spirit lingers in the spirit world for 49 days before it makes its transition to another realm or another reincarnation. From that conversation, I wondered what date 49 days from my mother’s death was. You guessed it! It was January 1st! What made this special was that for 2014, January 1st was a new moon and a new year! How does it get any stranger than that? Until next time!
